I saw this post on Pinterest an thought it was really cool, so I gave it a try.
I started by measuring out fabric to the size I wanted. I wanted to be able to fit my laptop in it so it had to be pretty wide.
I then cut and hemmed a small rectangle of fabric to make a pocket inside the bag.
Next were the straps. I braided long strips of duct tape together after folding each strip in half.
I taped the straps to the "outside" of the fabric.
And then added tape to the fabric. I liked the diagonal stripes rather than horizontal or vertical.
Here it is after being completely covered by the "duck tape".
| Once you've taped the outside, fold it in half and line the "seams" with tape. |
Here's the outside before adding tape around the top.
And this is the finished bag.
I really enjoyed making this bag, it was super simple. However I took this bag with me on a trip to Utah and the straps only lasted five minutes at the airport. In the original tutorial they used gromets and rope for the handles, but I was unable to find either when I was buying supplies. So perhaps using real duct tape would've held them better. When I find a solution I'll be sure to add an update.
